Main airports in Poland

There are over a dozen civil airports in Poland. Passenger traffic is concentrated in the eight largest: Warsaw Chopin, Warsaw/Modlin, Kraków, Gdańsk, Katowice, Wrocław, Poznań and Rzeszów — they handle the vast majority of travellers.

The largest is Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) — the main hub of the national carrier LOT. Low-cost airlines (Ryanair, Wizz Air) have bases in Modlin, Katowice-Pyrzowice, Wrocław, Gdańsk and Kraków, among others — from there it is often cheapest to fly to and from Western and Southern Europe.

Other regional airports include Szczecin–Goleniów, Bydgoszcz, Lublin, Łódź, Olsztyn–Mazury and Zielona Góra–Babimost — they have fewer connections, so always check the current schedule on the airport's website.

Tip for workers

Not always by plane — sometimes cheaper by bus

If you are coming from across the eastern border (e.g. from Ukraine), direct flights can be scarce, and it is often cheaper and more convenient to take a long-distance bus straight to your destination city. See our section on buses.
